What We Suggest Going Forward With DSTV At Self Catering Accommodation

A DSTV account is a way to add value to guests’ stays. But the ultimate full streaming package is between R700 and R900 per month. Should you continue with it?

To have DSTV there is no longer a need for a dish or decoder. Just provide the means to stream DSTV and Netflix. All you need is a clever TV or Android box or similar and proper (high speed uncapped) Internet.

Add the DSTV and Netflix app. And allow guests to use these with their own account details.

I believe this is fair. Most South Africans have these accounts. And they have no issue with this arrangement. The issue may be foreigners who want to watch DSTV Sport.

Personally, I suggest owners don’t invest in any DSTV packages. We just list it, saying DSTV is available using their own accounts.

If guests don’t have such an account, we create a DSTV account, pay the fee for a month and cancel.

The guest gets charged accordingly. And we cancel (anytime) when they depart. At zero cost to the owner.
